I'm Emma, a professional photographer living in Birmingham with my husband, Rob, and our Labrador, Barney.
I'm a tea drinker, chocolate lover and my favourite tipple is a G&T.
I'm inspired by nature and would love to set up my own florist even though I know nothing about floristry :)
I've always been creative which is why I often have to pinch myself as I know how lucky I am to be able to carve a career for myself in something that I love, photography.
How did I get here?
My Grandfather loved photography and had his own black and white dark room and my Gran constantly took photos of our family wherever we went. There are countless photos of us all throughout our lives and any milestone was the perfect opportunity for Gran to get her camera out. She captured it all and they are still in albums with their own captions so she remembered every event.
For my 14th birthday they gave me my first Olympus compact camera and needless to say my photography skills were not great.
When I went off to do my Art Foundation course I had it in my mind that I wanted to become an interior designer, but after doing one module in photography I was hooked and then before I knew it I graduated from university with a Bachelors degree in Photojournalism.
However, I didn't continue with photography as a career after my degree, it became more of a hobby. I worked in retail for a while before jetting off to travel and live in New Zealand. I returned to the UK and managed a fashion boutique for 6 years and then came full circle and started my photography business up 2 years ago.
Why garden and botanical photography?
For me gardens are such tranquil and relaxing spaces and they are full of inspiration. They are spaces where I can relax and unwind.
My Gran was a keen gardener and knew so much about flowers and plants. I remember the explosion of colour come Spring and Summer in her garden, it was stunning. When I was little she'd walk me around her garden showing me what everything was and I'd help her water and do a bit of planting. When I was given my camera I continued to be inspired by the outdoors and my Grandmother's garden. Flowers have been at the top of my list to photograph for a long time and I'm excited to be working with with florists and gardeners today.
This year I have been lucky enough to work for the Cotswold District Council. Not only have they sent me to some beautiful villages, they've sent me to some stunning gardens too.
Why lifestyle and branding photography?
For me it's all about my subject, you! I love meeting new people and hearing their stories, which is why I specialise in branding and lifestyle photography.
I'm passionate about brand photography because I love giving independent businesses a voice online. I worked for a fashion and beauty boutique throughout a recession and I understand that passion is what drives people to put their ideas out there. Local businesses are the heart of any community and I love working together with creative business owners to create a selection of images that best represent their story and brand.
